ST. AUGUSTINE – The Patron of the Parish
The Pravithanam Church was established in the name of Saint Augustine, a great scholar and theologian of the Catholic Church. Saint Augustine, considered the embodiment of intellect, was the Bishop of Hippo and regarded as one of the most influential figures in Christianity. He wrote extensively on theology, philosophy, and morality. His notable works include ‘Confessions’, an autobiographical account of his spiritual journey, and ‘The City of God’, a defense of Christianity against pagan critics. Augustine’s teachings on original sin, grace, and free will shaped much of Christian doctrine.
Along with the Feast of Saint Michael the Archangel, the Feast of Saint Augustine is celebrated as the main feast in the Pravithanam parish.
